Marc J. Bern & Partners and its professional team are reviewing potential lawsuits on behalf of individuals who received a recalled DePuy ASR hip implant, which has caused thousands of people to experience devastating pain and the need for additional hip surgery.

In August 2010, a DePuy ASR hip recall was issued for approximately 93,000 defective implants after data confirmed that the device has an unreasonably high rate of hip failure, often requiring individuals to undergo a second surgery to revise the original hip replacement.

Potential DePuy ASR hip lawsuits are being pursued for individuals who suspect that they may have received the metal-on-metal hip implant. Cases are also being reviewed for problems with DePuy Pinnacle hip replacements.

All cases are investigated by our DePuy ASR hip lawyers with no fees or expenses unless a recovery is obtained. To find out if you, a friend or family member may be entitled to compensation, request a free consultation and claim evaluation.

DEPUY ASR HIP PROBLEMS

DePuy ASR Hip Lawyers

Marc J. Bern & Partners and its professional team are investigating potential DePuy ASR hip lawsuits for individuals throughout the United States who received one of the recalled artificial hip systems. Compensation may be available, even if you have not yet experienced serious problems with the DePuy ASR hip.

REVIEW A CASE

The DePuy ASR Acetabular Cup System is a metal-on-metal hip component used in traditional hip replacement in the United States. The ASR hip resurfacing system, which is used in a popular alternative to traditional hip replacement, has not been approved in the U.S. but has been used abroad.

It is believed that a design flaw with the DePuy metal hip implant exists, which makes them difficult to implant at the proper angle and prone to fail.

If the metal-on-metal hip replacement is improperly positioned, it could cause small particles of metal to cause inflammatory reactions, impacting the surrounding tissue in the hip joint and loss of bone. This can cause DePuy ASR hip complications to leave patients with lasting problems and surgery to remove the hip implant can be more complex.

Complications from DePuy ASR hip implants could include:

  • Unexplained Hip Pain
  • Loosening of the DePuy ASR Hip
  • Hip Failure
  • Additional Hip Replacement or Revision Surgery

Individuals with a small stature, such as women and those with weak bones, may be more susceptible to failure of DePuy ASR hip implants. However, potential lawsuits are being pursued for all individuals who have experienced complications after their hip surgery.

DEPUY ASR HIP REPLACEMENT RECALL

Shortly after the DePuy ASR hip system was introduced in 2005, DePuy Orthopedics began receiving a number of complaints of problems and complications associated with early failure for the metal hip implants. The hip replacement can fail within only a few years of surgery, causing pain and leading to complicated and expensive replacement surgery.

Adverse event reports received by the FDA increased sharply between 2006 and 2009, with nearly 100 reports in 2007, over 200 in 2008 and over 300 in 2009. Most of the DePuy ASR complications involve situations where individuals require additional surgery to replace the defective hip implants.

In August 2010, Johnson & Johnson’s subsidiary DePuy Orthopaedics finally agreed to recall DePuy ASR hip implants. Data from the National Joint Registry of England and Wales found that the DePuy ASR Hip Resurfacing System had a 12% revision rate and the DePuy ASR XL Acetabular System had a revision rate of 13%.

All individuals who received a DePuy ASR hip have been advised to contact their surgeon for an evaluation, even if they are not experiencing problems.

DEPUY ASR HIP MASS TORT LAWYERS

DePuy Orthopedics introduced their metal-on-metal hip implant without adequately testing and researching the device. As a result of the negligent design and promotion of their defective product, thousands of people received the defective DePuy ASR hip and may experience unnecessary complications and problems.

Financial compensation may be available for hip replacement patients who experienced issues with DePuy ASR hip replacement parts, as the manufacturer appears to have placed their desire for profits ahead of the safety of consumers in promoting this defective hip replacement system.

Marc J. Bern & Partners and its professional team are reviewing potential injury lawsuits and mass tort lawsuits for DePuy ASR hip patients. To have a potential case reviewed by one of our product liability lawyers, request a free consultation and claim evaluation. All cases are pursued on a contingency fee basis, which means that there are no fees or expenses unless a recovery is obtained.
